Life insurance that protects the people who count on you

Life insurance can replace your income, pay off a mortgage or cover final expenses if something happens to you. We explain your options in plain language and help you compare — without pressure.

Why families buy life insurance

  • Replace income so your family can keep paying rent or the mortgage, bills and everyday costs.
  • Pay off debts such as a mortgage, car loan or credit cards.
  • Cover final expenses like a funeral and medical bills.
  • Fund future goals, such as your children's education.
  • Protect a business with key-person or buy-sell coverage.

Term or permanent: the main choice

Term life insurance covers you for a set period — commonly 10, 20 or 30 years. It usually gives the most coverage for the lowest premium, which makes it a common choice for parents and homeowners.

Permanent life insurance — such as whole life or universal life — is designed to last your whole life and can build cash value over time. Premiums are higher than term for the same death benefit.

Final expense insurance is a smaller permanent policy meant to cover funeral and end-of-life costs, often with a simpler application.

How much coverage do you need?

A practical starting point: add up the years of income your family would need, your debts, future goals like college, and final expenses — then subtract savings and any coverage you already have. We'll work through the numbers with you so the amount fits your budget.

What affects the price

Your age, health, tobacco use, the amount of coverage, the length of the term and sometimes your job or hobbies. Buying earlier generally locks in a lower premium for term policies.

Questions

Do I need a medical exam to get life insurance?

Not always. Some policies use a full medical exam, while others decide based on your application answers and database checks. No-exam policies are faster but may cost more or offer lower amounts. We'll show you both kinds of options.

Can I get life insurance if I have a health condition?

Often, yes. Many insurers cover people with conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure, especially when the condition is well managed. Price and approval depend on each insurer's underwriting, so comparing several insurers helps.

Is the life insurance from my job enough?

Group life insurance through work is a helpful start, but it's usually limited to a small multiple of your salary and often ends if you leave the job. Many families add an individual policy they control.

Can I buy life insurance if I'm not a U.S. citizen?

In many cases, yes. Insurers look at factors like your immigration documents, time living in the U.S. and ties to the country. Rules vary by insurer, so tell us your situation and we'll check which options are available.

Coverage, premiums and availability depend on the insurer's underwriting. Policies include limitations and exclusions; read your policy for full details.
