For 2027 ObamaCare coverage in Florida, you can generally get a premium tax credit if your household income is between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level. Here are the dollar limits by household size, what you’d be expected to pay, and what counts as income.

1. 2027 income limits by household size

People in your household Minimum income (100%) Maximum income (400%)
1 $15,960 $63,840
2 $21,640 $86,560
3 $27,320 $109,280
4 $33,000 $132,000
5 $38,680 $154,720
6 $44,360 $177,440
7 $50,040 $200,160
8 $55,720 $222,880

For each person over 8, add $5,680 to the minimum and $22,720 to the maximum. These amounts use the 2026 federal poverty guidelines, which apply to 2027 coverage. HealthCare.gov posts its 2027 savings amounts on November 1.

  • Above 400%: no premium tax credit in 2027. The extra help for higher incomes ended after 2025, and Congress hasn’t extended it (October 2026 update). You can still buy a Marketplace plan at full price.
  • Below 100%: in Florida, households under this amount generally can’t get a tax credit, and Florida hasn’t expanded Medicaid for most adults. Children and pregnant women may still qualify for Medicaid or Florida KidCare.

2. What you’d pay for a benchmark Silver plan

Your tax credit caps what you pay for the benchmark plan (the second-lowest-cost Silver plan in your area) at a share of your income:

Household income (% of the poverty level) Most you’d pay for the benchmark Silver plan, as a share of income
Under 133% 2.15%
133% to 150% 3.23% to 4.30%
150% to 200% 4.30% to 6.78%
200% to 250% 6.78% to 8.66%
250% to 300% 8.66% to 10.22%
300% to 400% 10.22%

Example: one person earning $31,920 a year (200% of the poverty level) would pay 6.78% of income for the benchmark Silver plan, about $180 a month. You can choose a cheaper plan and pay less, or a more expensive one and pay the difference. Our 2027 savings calculator does this math for you.

If your income is up to 250% of the poverty level, Silver plans also come with extra savings on deductibles and copays. See how to choose between Bronze, Silver and Gold.

3. What counts as income

The Marketplace uses your household’s modified adjusted gross income (MAGI): your adjusted gross income from your tax return, plus any untaxed foreign income, non-taxable Social Security benefits and tax-exempt interest.

  • Count: wages and tips, self-employment income, unemployment, Social Security (including the non-taxable part) and SSDI, retirement and pension income, investment and rental income, capital gains.
  • Don’t count: SSI, child support, gifts, veterans’ disability payments, workers’ compensation and loans.

Self-employed? Use your net business income (here’s how to estimate it).

4. Who counts in your household

Usually you, your spouse and anyone you’ll claim as a tax dependent, even if they don’t need coverage. In most cases, married couples must file their taxes jointly to get a tax credit.

5. Estimate your 2027 income carefully

Your tax credit is based on what you expect to earn in 2027, not on last year. If you end up earning more, you may have to pay back some or all of the extra credit when you file your 2027 taxes, and since the 2026 tax year there’s no cap on that repayment. If your income or household changes during the year, update your application as soon as possible.

6. If your job offers health insurance

If your job offers coverage that’s affordable and meets minimum standards, you generally can’t get a tax credit for a Marketplace plan. For 2027, job coverage counts as affordable if your own employee-only plan costs no more than 10.22% of your household income. For your family members, the test uses what family coverage would cost.
