Cigna is leaving Florida's ObamaCare Marketplace in 2027: choose a new plan by December 15 for coverage on January 1

Cigna Leaving Florida ObamaCare in 2027: What Members Should Do

Cigna announced in April 2026 that it is leaving the ACA Marketplace in all 11 states where it sold individual plans, including Florida. If you have a Cigna plan through HealthCare.gov, it ends on December 31, 2026. Until then, your coverage, doctors and benefits stay the same as long as you keep paying your premium.

The most important thing to know: pick a new plan by December 15, 2026, so your new coverage starts on January 1, 2027 with no gap.

Key dates

Date What happens
November 1, 2026 Open Enrollment for 2027 starts
December 15, 2026 Last day to choose a plan that starts January 1
December 31, 2026 Last day of Cigna Marketplace coverage
January 15, 2027 Open Enrollment ends. Plans chosen Dec 16 – Jan 15 start February 1

HHS has appealed the court decision that kept the January 15 end date, so the final deadline could still change. December 15 is the safe date either way.

Will I be moved to another plan automatically?

Possibly. When your plan is no longer available, the Marketplace may re-enroll you in a plan from another insurer with a similar network if you don’t choose one yourself. But that plan:

  • may not include your doctors, hospitals or pharmacy
  • may not cover your prescriptions the same way
  • may not be the lowest price for you after your 2027 tax credit

Don’t wait for an automatic move. Comparing plans yourself, or with a licensed agent, is the only way to know your doctors and medicines are covered.

What to do now

  1. Keep your notice. Cigna and the Marketplace should send a letter saying your plan is ending. Keep it with your records.
  2. Make a list of your doctors, hospitals, pharmacy and prescriptions (name and dose).
  3. Update your 2027 application: your expected income, everyone in your household, and your immigration documents if they apply. New 2027 rules limit who can get financial help.
  4. Compare plans by network, drug list, deductible and out-of-pocket maximum, not just the monthly premium. Use our 2027 ObamaCare calculator to see what you’re expected to pay for a benchmark plan.
  5. Choose a plan by December 15.
  6. Pay your first premium to the new insurer. Your new plan isn’t active until you make the first payment by the insurer’s due date. Pay it as soon as the bill arrives, and set up the new payment method.

If you miss December 15

Losing a plan because it’s discontinued generally qualifies you for a Special Enrollment Period: you can choose a plan from 60 days before to 60 days after the loss, and you’ll need to confirm it with documents. You can also still enroll during Open Enrollment through January 15. Either way, a plan picked after December 15 usually starts February 1 or later, which can leave you without coverage in January.

Sunshine State Health Plan members

Sunshine State Health Plan is also leaving Florida’s Marketplace for 2027. If its members don’t choose a plan, they’ll be moved to an Ambetter plan, which belongs to the same parent company (Centene). Compare before you accept it, especially if you have doctors or medicines you need to keep.
