To renew ObamaCare for 2027 in Florida, log in to HealthCare.gov starting November 1, update your expected 2027 income and household details, compare plans, and choose by December 15 for coverage that begins January 1. If you do nothing, you may be automatically re-enrolled, possibly in a different plan.

If you have an ObamaCare (Health Insurance Marketplace) plan in 2026, Open Enrollment is your chance to renew, change or update it for 2027. It runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027, and you need to choose a plan by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1. Here’s how to renew without surprises.

1. Read the two letters you get before November 1

By November 1, you should get two letters: one from your insurance company and one from the Marketplace. Together they tell you:

  • Whether your current plan is available for 2027

  • Which plan you’re matched with, and will be automatically re-enrolled in if you don’t act by December 15

  • Changes in your coverage and your savings

  • Whether the Marketplace needs documents from you, and how to send them

Don’t have your letters? Call your insurance company for theirs, and the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 for the Marketplace letter. If your Marketplace letter says you won't get the premium tax credit for 2027, update your application anyway: HealthCare.gov lists common reasons, such as the extra pandemic-era savings ending on December 31, 2025, newer income information from the IRS, documents the Marketplace still needs from you, or not having allowed the Marketplace to use your tax data.

2. What happens if you do nothing

If you have Marketplace coverage and don’t act by December 15, you may be automatically re-enrolled for January 1, so you don’t have a gap. If your insurance company doesn’t offer a similar plan for 2027, the Marketplace may move you to a comparable plan with a different company. In some cases you won’t be re-enrolled automatically, so don’t count on it.

Automatic re-enrollment keeps you covered, but it uses the information already on your application. Your savings may be wrong for 2027, too low or too high, and the plan you’re matched with may not include your doctors.

3. Update your income and household for 2027

Your savings for 2027 are based on what you expect your household to earn in 2027, not on past years. If you don’t update your application:

  • You could miss savings you qualify for, or

  • You could get more than you qualify for and have to pay it back when you file your 2027 taxes. Since the 2026 tax year, there’s no cap on how much you may have to repay.

Also update your household: a new baby, a marriage or divorce, someone who got job coverage or Medicare, or a move. Our 2027 savings calculator gives you a quick estimate. Self-employed? See how to estimate your 2027 net income.

4. Compare before you choose

Plans and prices change every year. Before you keep your plan, check:

  • The monthly premium after your tax credit

  • The deductible and the out-of-pocket maximum, not just the premium

  • Whether your doctors, clinics and hospitals are in the plan’s network

  • Whether your prescriptions are covered

  • If your income is up to 250% of the federal poverty level, Silver plans may come with extra savings on deductibles and copays (see Bronze, Silver or Gold?)

5. Key dates

  • November 1, 2026: Open Enrollment starts

  • December 15, 2026: last day to choose a plan that starts January 1

  • January 15, 2027: Open Enrollment ends. Plans chosen December 16 – January 15 start February 1.

If you were automatically re-enrolled and your coverage already started, you can still switch plans until January 15. The new plan starts February 1.

6. New in 2027: you approve your agent

If a licensed agent helps you renew through an online enrollment platform, federal rules now require you to approve that agent. You’ll get a text, an email or an automated call with a one-time code or link. It works only once and expires within 15 minutes, so keep your phone nearby when we call. Some applications also need a quick identity check first. Your approval lasts for the whole plan year, unless you approve a different agent.
