Broward County at a glance
Broward County had about 2,013,300 residents on July 1, 2025, by the Census Bureau's estimate. The Census Bureau also reports that:
- 36.9% of residents were born outside the United States, and 43.8% of people 5 and older speak a language other than English at home (2020–2024);
- the median household income is $77,633 (2020–2024, in 2024 dollars), with 2.60 people per household;
- 13.8% of residents under 65 have no health insurance.
Questions Broward families ask about 2027
- Can a hospital district's help replace a plan? Broward has two hospital districts, special taxing districts set up by the Florida Legislature: the North Broward Hospital District (Broward Health, 1951) and the South Broward Hospital District (Memorial Healthcare System, 1947). Both have financial assistance programs that lower bills at their own hospitals for patients who qualify. Broward Health's offers full assistance to uninsured residents of its service area with family income at or below 300% of the poverty level. Memorial's uses a sliding scale for uninsured or underinsured patients with family income below 400% of the poverty guidelines. These programs help with that system's bills; a Marketplace plan is health insurance, used with the plan's own network of doctors and hospitals.
- We're Haitian. Do we keep our savings? Broward County's planning office reports that 128,878 residents, 6.6% of the county, have Haitian ancestry (Census Bureau survey, 2018–2022). From January 1, 2027, tax credits will be limited to U.S. citizens and nationals, green card holders, Cuban and Haitian entrants and COFA migrants. Cuban or Haitian nationals who were paroled in or have an asylum case pending generally count as entrants if they have no final removal order. Temporary Protected Status (TPS) isn't on the 2027 list, so a family with TPS alone can still buy a plan, usually at full price. If your case involves more than one status, ask an immigration attorney. See who qualifies.
- Are we above the 400% line? Broward's median household income, $77,633, falls between the 2027 cutoffs for one and two people. A single adult earning that much would be above the $63,840 limit and pay full price, while a couple with the same income would be under $86,560 and could qualify if they meet the other rules. Estimate carefully: there's no cap on paying back extra credit. Try the 2027 calculator.

Health care and help close to home
We're not affiliated with these services.
- Broward Health Medical Center (1600 S Andrews Ave, Fort Lauderdale) has an emergency department open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and a Level I trauma center for adults and children. Memorial Regional Hospital (3501 Johnson St, Hollywood) has an emergency room open 24/7, with the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital emergency room on the same campus. If you'd like to use either, or any hospital near home, check that it's in a plan's network before you choose: HMO and EPO plans only cover in-network care, except emergencies.
- Library computers and Wi-Fi. Every Broward County Library location has Wi-Fi, and a library card lets you use the public computers at any location, including the Main Library (100 S Andrews Ave, Fort Lauderdale).
- Application help. HealthCare.gov's Find Local Help tool lists community groups that help with Marketplace applications.

Questions from Broward families
Do you have an office in Fort Lauderdale or Broward County?
No. Our office is in Hialeah, at 460 E 23rd St #209. We help Broward County families by phone and online, and in person at the Hialeah office by appointment. We don't take walk-ins.
Can you help us entirely in Spanish?
Yes. We help in Spanish or English, from the first call through your first payment, any document requests from the Marketplace and next year's renewal.
How do we approve you as our agent?
You'll get a one-time code or link by text, email or automated call. It expires 15 minutes after it's sent; if it does, we can send another, up to three in 24 hours. Never share your HealthCare.gov password with anyone, including us.
Broward Health asked me to apply for the Marketplace first. Can you help?
Yes. Broward Health's financial assistance program asks applicants to apply first for other coverage, such as the Health Insurance Marketplace, Medicaid, Medicare or Florida KidCare. We can help with the Marketplace application by phone and online. The financial assistance application itself is done with a Broward Health financial counselor (954-767-5344).
Can we enroll online on our own?
Yes. Use the Enroll online yourself button, or apply directly at HealthCare.gov or by calling 1-800-318-2596. If you get stuck, call us: insurers pay us, so your premium is the same.
