Questions Palm Beach County families ask about 2027
- We had District Cares. What now? The Health Care District of Palm Beach County, an independent taxing district that county voters created in 1988, is discontinuing its District Cares program. It no longer accepts new applications, and existing patients could use referrals and services until December 31, 2025. The District says its community health centers remain available to all regardless of insurance status, with discounted fees for those who qualify for the federal sliding fee scale, based on income and family size. If you want health insurance, you can apply for a Marketplace plan during Open Enrollment; whether you get a tax credit depends on your income and immigration status. Open Enrollment 2027 in Florida.
- Are we above the 400% line? Palm Beach County's median household income, $83,581, is less than $3,000 under the 2027 cutoff for two people, $86,560. A couple earning the median could qualify if they meet the other rules, but a raise or a bonus could push them over the line, and above it there's no tax credit. Your household usually means you, your spouse and your tax dependents. Estimate carefully: there's no cap on paying back extra credit. Try the 2027 calculator.
- Does our immigration status matter? From January 1, 2027, tax credits will be limited to U.S. citizens and nationals, green card holders, Cuban and Haitian entrants and COFA migrants. Cuban or Haitian nationals who were paroled in or have an asylum case pending generally count as entrants if they have no final removal order. Other parole generally doesn't count, so those families can still buy a plan, usually at full price. See who qualifies.

Health care and help close to home
We're not affiliated with these services.
- Lakeside Medical Center (39200 Hooker Highway, Belle Glade) is the Health Care District's public hospital, close to Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay, with 17 emergency room treatment areas. If you'd like to use it, or any hospital near home, check that it's in a plan's network before you choose: HMO and EPO plans only cover in-network care, except emergencies.
- West Palm Beach Community Health Center (1150 45th Street), one of the District's health centers, offers adult and pediatric care, behavioral health, dental care and a pharmacy. Open weekdays 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m.–1 p.m.; appointments at 561-642-1000.
- Library computers and Wi-Fi. Every Palm Beach County Library System branch has computers with internet access and Wi-Fi, and cardholders 16 and older can borrow a laptop to use in the branch. The Main Library is at 3650 Summit Blvd, West Palm Beach.
- Application help. HealthCare.gov's Find Local Help tool lists community groups that help with Marketplace applications.

Questions from Palm Beach County families
Do you have an office in West Palm Beach or Palm Beach County?
No. Our office is in Hialeah, at 460 E 23rd St #209. We help Palm Beach County families by phone and online, and in person at the Hialeah office by appointment. We don't take walk-ins.
Can you help us entirely in Spanish?
Yes. We help in Spanish or English, from the first call through your first payment, any document requests from the Marketplace and next year's renewal.
How do we approve you as our agent?
You'll get a one-time code or link by text, email or automated call. It expires 15 minutes after it's sent; if it does, we can send another, up to three in 24 hours. Never share your HealthCare.gov password with anyone, including us.
I'm turning 65 soon. What happens to my Marketplace plan?
More than one in four Palm Beach County residents is 65 or older. Medicare sign-up starts 3 months before you turn 65. A Marketplace plan doesn't end on its own when Medicare starts, so you need to update your application to end it, and its tax credit generally stops once you're eligible for Medicare Part A. We can help you update or end your Marketplace application.
Can we enroll online on our own?
Yes. Use the Enroll online yourself button, or apply directly at HealthCare.gov or by calling 1-800-318-2596. If you get stuck, call us: insurers pay us, so your premium is the same.
