Miami by the numbers

The City of Miami has about 489,800 residents (Census Bureau estimate for 2025). According to the U.S. Census Bureau:

  • 57.7% of residents were born outside the United States, and 77.2% speak a language other than English at home;
  • 18.9% of residents under 65 have no health insurance, and 19.4% live in poverty;
  • households average 2.32 people, and only 30.8% of homes are owner-occupied, so most are rented;
  • 83.6% of households have a broadband internet subscription.

What matters most in Miami for 2027

  • Immigration status now decides your savings. From January 1, 2027, tax credits go only to U.S. citizens and nationals, green card holders, Cuban and Haitian entrants and COFA migrants. Other lawfully present immigrants, such as people with TPS or refugees and asylees without a green card, can still buy a plan, generally at full price. If your status can't be verified, you may be renewed without savings. See who qualifies.
  • Mixed-status families can still apply. Each person is looked at separately, so a family can get savings for members who qualify, like a child who is a U.S. citizen. Relatives who aren't applying won't be asked about their status.
  • Moved to a new apartment? A move to a new ZIP code or county can open a Special Enrollment Period, with 60 days to pick a plan, generally if you had qualifying coverage for at least 1 day in the 60 days before. How it works.

Free and low-cost health resources in Miami

We're not affiliated with these services.

  • City of Miami Health Initiative. The City's Department of Human Services offers free screenings in City neighborhoods, including HIV testing and EKG heart screenings for children and youth ages 5 to 21 at City summer camps. Call 311 or 305-468-5900.
  • Department of Health clinics. The Florida Department of Health's Health District Center (1350 NW 14th St) and Little Haiti Health Center (300 NE 80th Terrace) offer services such as immunizations, with reduced fees for uninsured patients who qualify: 305-575-3800. The Health District Center also issues birth certificates; a U.S. birth certificate plus a photo ID is one way to confirm citizenship if the Marketplace asks.
  • Jackson Memorial Hospital (1611 NW 12th Ave), the flagship of Jackson Health System, is by Jackson's own account among the largest public hospitals in the country. Jackson offers financial assistance to uninsured Miami-Dade residents who qualify, but notes that its Jackson Prime and clinic cards aren't health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
  • Free computers. Miami-Dade Public Library System branches, including the Main Library at 101 W Flagler St, offer free computers and Wi-Fi with a library card.

Four ways to get started

  • Call (305) 440-8070. No internet needed.
  • Book a free call at a time that works around your job.
  • Request a quote online in about two minutes; a licensed agent gets back to you.
  • Enroll online yourself with our HealthSherpa link (a private enrollment website that works with HealthCare.gov), and call us if you need a hand.

We ask for your documented consent before helping with a Marketplace application, as federal rules require, and you review it before it's submitted. Renting? We also help with renters insurance, plus auto and life insurance.

Questions from Miami residents

Is your office in Miami?

No. Our office is in Hialeah, at 460 E 23rd St #209. We help Miami residents by phone and online, and in person at the Hialeah office by appointment. We don't take walk-ins.

I don't have internet at home. Can you still help?

Yes. We can do it by phone. You approve us with a one-time code sent by text, email or automated call, so a phone is enough. To apply online yourself, Miami-Dade library branches have free computers and Wi-Fi.

Can a relative handle this for me?

A relative can join the call, but the approval code goes to the phone or email on your application. Those must be yours or your authorized representative's, never the agent's.

How do I pay my first premium?

You pay the insurance company, not HealthCare.gov. Coverage doesn't start until you pay the first month, so pay as soon as the first bill arrives. We show you how and confirm that your coverage is active.

Does it cost more to use an agent?

No. Premiums are the same with or without an agent. Insurers pay licensed agents a commission, and we don't charge you for help with your Marketplace application.
