Homestead at a glance

Homestead has about 86,200 residents (Census Bureau estimate for 2025). The City describes Miami as about 30 miles to the north and Everglades National Park as about 10 miles to the west. Getting help shouldn't mean a long drive: we can do nearly all of it by phone and online. According to the U.S. Census Bureau:

  • 21.2% of residents under 65 have no health insurance, about one in five;
  • 18.4% of residents live in poverty;
  • 29.5% are under 18, and the average household has 3.21 people;
  • 68.8% speak a language other than English at home.

What this means for your family in 2027

  • Check each person. In Florida, adults with household income under 100% of the poverty level ($27,320 for 3 people) generally can't get a tax credit, and Florida hasn't expanded Medicaid for most adults. Children and pregnant women may still qualify for Medicaid or Florida KidCare, and children may qualify even if their parents don't. If your income later rises enough for a tax credit, you may have 60 days to enroll. Special Enrollment.
  • Count your whole tax household. Income limits grow with household size, and your household is usually you, your spouse and your tax dependents. Estimate 2027 income carefully: there's no cap on paying back extra credit. Try the 2027 calculator.
  • New immigration rules on January 1, 2027. Tax credits will be limited to U.S. citizens and nationals, green card holders, Cuban and Haitian entrants and COFA migrants. Other lawfully present immigrants, such as people with TPS, can still buy a plan, generally at full price. See who qualifies.
Table by Arte Insurance: 2027 income range for ObamaCare tax credits by household size, from $15,960–$63,840 for 1 person to $44,360–$177,440 for 6 people.

Local health resources

  • Community health centers. Community Health of South Florida (CHI) runs the Martin Luther King Jr. Clinica Campesina Health Center (810 West Mowry Drive) and the South Dade Health Center (13600 SW 312th Street) in Homestead. CHI says it takes most insurance plans and charges uninsured patients on a sliding scale based on income: (305) 252-4820.
  • WIC. The Florida Department of Health's Homestead/Florida City WIC Center is at 753 West Palm Drive. Appointments: 786-336-1300.
  • Family planning and prenatal care. The Department of Health's Florida City Family Planning Clinic (1600 NW 6th Court) offers reduced fees to uninsured patients who meet its eligibility rules. Prenatal line: 305-242-2443.

Four ways to get started

  • Call (305) 440-8070 and talk to us in English or Spanish.
  • Book a free call at a time that fits your schedule.
  • Request a quote online. It takes about two minutes; a licensed agent gets back to you by phone or email.
  • Enroll online yourself through our HealthSherpa link (a private enrollment website that works with HealthCare.gov), and call us if you get stuck.

Federal rules require your documented consent before we help with a Marketplace application, and you review it before it's submitted. We also help Homestead families with auto, homeowners, condo and renters and life insurance.

Questions from Homestead residents

Do you have an office in Homestead?

No. Our office is in Hialeah, at 460 E 23rd St #209. We help Homestead residents by phone and online, and in person at the Hialeah office by appointment. We don't take walk-ins.

Can I do everything by phone?

Yes. We compare plans with you by phone. To let us help with your Marketplace application, you approve us with a one-time code or link sent to the phone or email on your application. It expires in 15 minutes, so keep your phone nearby when we call.

What should I have ready?

Names and dates of birth for your household, Social Security or immigration document numbers for those applying, your best estimate of 2027 household income, your current plan and member ID if you have one, and your doctors and prescriptions.

Where else can I get free help with the application?

HealthCare.gov's Find Local Help tool lists community groups that help at no cost. You can also apply on your own at HealthCare.gov or by calling 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325).

Does it cost more to use an agent?

No. Premiums are the same with or without an agent. Insurers pay licensed agents a commission, and we don't charge you for help with your Marketplace application.
