Miami Lakes at a glance
Miami Lakes became a town in December 2000, Miami-Dade County's 31st municipality. It started as a planned community on the Graham family's dairy land and today counts 23 lakes. About 33,100 people live here (Census Bureau estimate for 2025). According to the U.S. Census Bureau:
- the median household income is $101,557 (2020–2024, in 2024 dollars), with 2.86 people per household;
- 59.8% of homes are owner-occupied;
- 9.9% of residents under 65 have no health insurance;
- 85.9% speak a language other than English at home.
What 2027 means for Miami Lakes households
- Watch the 400% cutoff. The extra help of 2021–2025 has ended, so households above 400% of the poverty level get no tax credit in 2027: above $86,560 for 2 people or $109,280 for 3. A household near the Town's median income could land on either side, depending on its size. Above the line, you can still buy a plan at full price, so compare the lowest-cost options. Try the 2027 calculator.
- Compare with your job's plan. If your employer offers affordable coverage that meets minimum standards, you generally can't get a tax credit for a Marketplace plan. For your family members, the test uses what family coverage would cost.
- Changing jobs? Losing job-based coverage gives you 60 days to choose a Marketplace plan, which you can compare with COBRA. If your employer had fewer than 20 employees, Florida's continuation law may apply instead, and you must notify the insurance company in writing within 63 days. COBRA or ObamaCare?
- Renewing a 2026 plan? Read the letters from your insurer and the Marketplace, update your 2027 income and compare before December 15 instead of renewing on autopilot. How to renew.

Questions from Miami Lakes residents
Can we meet in person?
Yes, by appointment at our Hialeah office, 460 E 23rd St #209. We don't take walk-ins. Most steps can also be done by phone or online.
Can you help in the evening or on weekends?
Yes. We're open 24 hours, every day, by phone and online, and you can book a free call at a time that suits you.
Can you review our renewal letters?
Yes. Before November 1 you should get two letters, one from your insurer and one from the Marketplace. They show whether your plan continues in 2027, which plan you'd be renewed into and whether documents are needed. Have them handy when we talk.
What if the approval code expires?
It expires 15 minutes after it's sent. We can send another, up to three in 24 hours. Once you approve us, the approval lasts the whole plan year unless you approve a different agent.
Does it cost more to use an agent?
No. Premiums are the same with or without an agent. Insurers pay licensed agents a commission, and we don't charge you for help with your Marketplace application.
